iphone / iPad Apps

I’m eager to provide iPhone application development services and as such I am currently training to do so. Obviously in the IT sector we are always learning and adapting and to me, this is one more route to market that will hopefully help my career, but more so than anything else.. application development (and in time, cross-platform develoment.) has really got me hooked!

The introduction of Apple’s latest offering, the iPad, has furthered awareness and interest in application development for both personal and business uses but for now my focus will be on targeted iPhone apps, but being as compatible as possible for the iPad as allowing for the bigger canvas of the iPad bring new challenges for inderface design.

App Development

The iPhone is the most renowned next-generation mobile platform in today’s market. As such, Apple has provided developers with a unique platform for creating various mobile applications by releasing an SDK for the iPhone. This SDK has given developers full access to the phone, including the multi-touch interface, accelerometer, proximity sensor, dialer, address book and calendar.

In fact, the process of designing an iPhone application is very much alike to the creation a Mac OS X application. iPhone is a mobile platform, and it has additional features as opposed to Mac OS X. When designing an iPhone application, developers need a different approach. Such features as the touchscreen, limited memory size and completely different field of use should always be taken into careful consideration.

Mobile Popularity

The iPhone’s popularity as a whole is constantly growing. The mobile market is developing much faster than that of the desktop market, and this next-generation device has already taken up its favourable position in the market.Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, announced at his presentation of the next generation iPad device, that there were over 140,000 applications on the Apple Store by the end of 2009.The reports say that there are 23 countries in the Apple Mobile network with more than 100,000 unique iPhone and iPod touch devices. Apple’s handsets sales increased 150 percent worldwide in 2009, and analysts believe that cumulative Apple sales figures are expected to increase in 2010.
